Subject: The canopy is very high as there is competition for sunlight and a need to get above flood waters.

Amazonas06 - 081 * A typical morning had a rainforest hike where we experienced the mud, heat and humidity first hand. Because this was dry season, we had a long hike just to get to Terra Firma which does not seasonally flood. The land that is exposed in the dry season is called varzea.
